About The Thatch - Elsdon Cottages
Cottage rental includes
The Thatch provides comfortable, quality accommodation for couples and families in a wonderful location. One of three holiday properties on this site, located in the grounds of a 17th century former manor house at Monkton Wyld, just north of the A35 on the Dorset/Devon border. This single floor thatched cottage comprises an open plan sitting room with a cosy log burner, a well equipped fitted kitchen and open dining area. A small conservatory/sunroom extends the living accommodation to provide the perfect spot to sit and enjoy a morning cup of tea in the sunshine. With the two bedrooms also on the ground floor, this cottage is additionally well suited to those with limited mobility or those holidaying with very young children. There is a small seating area with furniture outside the cottage. Guests also have access to six acres of grounds, including wild meadows and a small lake (coarse fishing allowed) and are free to wander and enjoy the abundance of wildlife that is encouraged by the welcoming owner. Lyme Regis itself is a truly fantastic place. Situated on the magnificent Jurassic Coast, it's known as the pearl of Dorset and upon visiting, it's easy to see why. A famous spot for fossil hunters worldwide, it also sits on the South West Coast Path and offers a whole host of wonderful hikes and walks nearby. Lyme Regis' sheltered south-facing beaches are safe for both children and water sport enthusiasts, with great fishing and leisure boat opportunities available from the Cobb harbour. It has a fantastic food and music scene and is often used as a prime filming location. There are also vast amounts of festivals and events happening in the town throughout the year. Some of the bigger ones include the jazz and folk festivals, Food Rocks, Regatta & Carnival Week, Guitars on The Beach, and Lifeboat Week which offers a week of fun, games, music and displays for all the family. Of course, there are also loads of smaller events happening as well! Charmouth has a small selection of shops and a post office as well as pubs, cafes and restaurants. The Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre on the seafront provides a wealth of information about local geology, rock pooling and fossil collecting. There is also a large park, with a well-equipped children's playground nearby. A great location for walkers; the South West Coast footpath and a network of inland footpaths allow visitors to explore the stunning West Dorset coast and countryside.
